Life Interrupted

Crackberries, er… I mean, Blackberries… are marvelous devices! With just one device that I can strap to my belt or put in a pocket or purse, I can do many different things that used to require multiple pieces of equipment. I can get my email on it, receive text messages and even use it to receive phone calls. Whenever it vibrates I know that something magical has happened! It could be the million-dollar email that will change my life forever. It could be a text message from my largest client telling me that he wants me to call him so I can receive a multi-million-dollar contract. It could be long lost Nigerian uncle calling to ask me for my bank account numbers so he can move 25 million dollars into my account.

Take Time to Think!

In today’s world, information is more readily available to everyone than at any other time in history. A simple search on the internet can find everything from a great chocolate chip cookie recipe to the mapping of the human genome. This ability is a great thing for all of us. However, what comes with this is a need to not be constantly searching but rather interpreting and putting together this information into new and useful ideas.

There comes a time when we need to shut out the world and allow ourselves to think. I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Albert Schweitzer who responded to a question about what he thought was wrong with men in his day. Dr. Schweitzer supposedly said, “Men simply don’t think!”
